Weird Things My Non-Writer Friends Have Said/Done

I was looking for a post to do and then I thought, why not talk about my weird non-writer friends? And then I saw that Jem Jones uploaded something similar to my idea, and it was HILARIOUS, read it HERE.
So I decided that I'm going to go through with my post idea! Here are some weird things my non-writer peeps have said…

----

Friend: *Is in an argument with a random stranger, while I stand to the side, rolling my eyes* I don't care what you think, I'm right, and my friend would agree with me, and she's a writer, so she's super smart!

----

Me: Guess what! I self-published my book!
Friend: DUDE, that is so cool!! Let me advertise for you!
Me: Ummm, what?
Friend: HERE I GO. *Dashes out of the classroom and into a hallway full of people, while shouting* BUY GRAY'S BOOK, GUYS. IT'S LIT!!!!!! *The sound of him running into a trashcan rings through the halls*
Me: *Still standing frozen in the room* ….
Friend: I'M OKAY, HOMIES!

----

Friend: I read your book, you need to get it on audible.
Me: That would be cool, but I don't know how and besides, it's not that good-
Friend: I can voice it!

----

Friend: If one of your works becomes famous, will you let me star as your main character?

----

Friend: I have an awesome story idea! How about I tell it to you, you write it, and we'll split the money!!
Me: Hahahaha! Oh, wait… you aren't joking… ummm, well, no?

----

Friend: Don't worry, if Twilight became a bestseller, you'll be a superseller one day!
Me: *nearly dies laughing*

----

Friend: This story of yours has a girl with curly hair… is she you?
Me: Nope!
Friend: This character has freckles, is she yo-
Me: NOPE.

----

Friend: So you're going to be the next J.K. Rowling, right?
Me: Hahaha, no pressure there.

----

Friend: You are such a talented writer, you have such a way with words, and-
Me: Have you read anything I've written?
Friend: One time you wrote on the dry-erase board for youth group, does that count?
Me: No…?
Friend: Well, I hate reading. If I didn't I would totally read everything you wrote.
Me: Okay, but then how can you say I'm a good writer?
Friend: *Pats my head* You have the big eyes of an author.
Me: …..

----

To sum this all up, I have some weird friends. But I love them. XD

Has one of your non-writer friends ever made a strange comment without realizing it?
What was it??

Happy Writing,

  6. Oh my goodness, that is hilarious. I don't usually tell people I'm a writer, but when I do, I'm ignored anyway. :/

I especially love the one where s/he ran into a trash can. Quite funny. At least they're supportive. XD

    1. I actually don't tell people that much either, but my close friends know and of course my family does, so they tell everyone! And it's so sad when your ignored, but other times it's a relief, because you don't have to support their ideas of how a writer acts.

Yep! At least they are!!! XD

    2. TRUE!!! I'm not sure how I would take the false stereotypes. The people who ignored my interest in writing aren't really in my life anyway for other reasons I'm not getting into.

I don't really mind it. The point of the pen name is so certain people I don't want in my life don't know its me. There was only one person who used to be my best friend and she thought it was cool. We actually tried writing together once. It was funny. I'll have to share the story another time. XD

  10. AH I LOVE IT!!!! And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who saves conversations. Maybe it's a writer thing?

    My all-time favorite:

My Dad: You know, you're very good at reading. You should work at the library when you grow up.
Little boy we're babysitting: You mean be a librarian?
Dad: I wouldn't necessarily move to Liberia....

    3. My entire family is just non-stop hilarity sometimes...once you get us going, there's no stopping, lol!

It would be neat to have a bunch of writers get together and audio-dramatize each other's books. The more talented could do the music and the background sounds, and those who are good at reading/voices/accents can do the reading. :)

  11. Aww Gray you just crack me up here xD

Let's see what I have. Just digging up what different friends have said at different times :D

    Me: *sends poem to friend*
Fried: Oh my goodness you could be a professional poet like Robert Frost or Robert Louis Stevenson!

    Me: I'm writing a book.
    Friend: A book?

    Me: I'm writing a book.
    Friend: Good luck.

    Me: I'm writing a book.
    Friend: *nothing*

ME: I want to publish a book before I graduate.
Friend: WELL GO FOR IT! YOU'VE GOT THIS!

    Me: I'm writing a book.
Grandparent 1: I'm ordering the first copy.
    Later ...
Grandparent 2: And guess who's ordering the first copy of your book?
Me: He is? *points at Grandparent 1*
Grandparent 2: No! I am! When did he say he was going to order the first copy?!
    Me: Just now.
Grandparent 2: No he didn't! I didn't hear it! So I'm still first!

Me: I'm writing this story ...
Cousin: And I can't wait for it to expand into a ten book series!
    Me: Whoa there,no pressure!

(another) Cousin: So what are you doing?
ME: And I'm writing this book called ---- and it's about ----
    Later...
Cousin: I LOVE THE SOUND OF IT AND I TOLD TWO OTHER COUSINS AND ONE SAYS SHE'LL EVEN HELP YOU EDIT AND PUBLISH IT AND WE'VE DECIDED HOW YOU SHOULD ILLUSTRATE IT AND IF YOU DON'T WANT IT ILLUSTRATED WE ARE MORE THAN READY TO CONTRIBUTE FAN ART!!!!
Me: Whoa I'd better get to work.

My mom: she's writing a book.
Family friend who just finished her autobiography: *is shocked*

My mom: wow is this your blog?
    ME: yeah...
Mom: WE SHOULD SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE WE KNOW!

    1. DUDE. THESE ARE TOO FUNNY! XD

The one where the friend says nothing is honestly my life half of the time!!! XD

Awww, that's so cute that your cousins did that! <33 My seven year old cousin made me pinkie promise her that when she's a professional artist, that she can illustrate one of my books, so it looks like we both have work to do!

OH, and the last one with your blog reminds me of my mom! She's told so many people at church! It's weird going through my list of subscribers and seeing older people that I know... XD

      Delete
    2. Lisa, that's hilarious! Like Gray said, the friend that says nothing is my life. But you have some supportive extended family. That's awesome. Cherish that. :D

      Delete
    3. Thanks guys xD

Well my cousin who talked about illustration is like 19 and the others mentioned are like between 20 and 30 xD so. They actually expect things to go somewhere. And they read my blog xD it's true though that I have a marvelously supportive extended family and most people I tell are just intrigued or excited!

      Delete
  12. Hahaha! All of this is so true though. Non-writers are weird that way. :)

My favorite was getting a proof copy of my book printed at Office Depot. I told the guy which file it was, and he just looked flabbergasted.
"Wait..." he said, scrolling through MY pages of writing that I didn't want him to read. "You wrote all this?"
    Me: "Yes..."
Him: *blinks and has no response* "Oh. Okay. Do you want it in color or black and white?"
Me: *frowns* "There isn't anything in color in it. Black and white is fine."
Then I wander around the store waiting to get my flash drive back and plotting how I can get revenge if he steals the file to publish as his own work...

    1. YES. AND THEY THINK WE'RE THE WEIRD ONES! *shakes head* Poor muggles, they have it backwards... XD

That's so funny! "I wander around the store waiting to get my flash drive back and plotting how I can get revenge if he steals the file to publish as his own work..." AHAHAHA, EXACTLY! XD

Getting a proof copy at home Depot is actually a good idea! I always just print out proof copies at my dad's office, and I have to sneak around, because my dad doesn't want to explain why his daughter is printing out so many pages! XD

  13. This is too funny!! Great post, Gray!

I've been writing for so long that most of my family honestly doesn't really react anymore. My dad is super encouraging, and always telling that I'm doing everything right. But he's a professional web designer and blogger, and he's just shocked how I've picked up all his tips on blogging and am using them now. lol

My best friend is super supportive to. I'll send her a poem I wrote at one point and she's like "Wow Libby... this is deep."
"Uh.. *blinks and looks around* thanks?"

People have looked surprise at me when I've told them that I was writing a book. I remember telling these girls that I was writing a book and the friend of the other girl was like: "She is too!" The joy in my heart. lol

I don't know why people always assume I write about MYSELF either. They must think I'm really self absorbed. I already spend enough time with myself, I'd rather write about someone interesting haha.
