My Basic Eye Look // I cave and give y'all a cringe-fest of a tutorial

Since I've gotten so many requests for makeup tutorials or help, I decided that it would be fun to post one.

(also, I'm suddenly super busy and I did this post a few days ago with no plans to post it, but since I now have another part-time job!! andddd am in a new and very intense class, which I'll tell y'all about later, I'm just going to actually post this fluff).

Now, since my makeup routine isn't very put together and I use whatever I can get my hands on for base stuff, I'm only going to be doing an eye look tutorial since it's one of the only things I think I'm kind of good at.

This look is one of my go-tos, it's very easy and pretty. Also, it just occurred to me that I am super white and that these colors might not work on darker skin colors, but if you are darker or a POC, you can use different colors that will work better in place of the colors I'm going to be using.

Let's get into it, I hope y'all enjoy, sorry to all my readers who don't use makeup and can't relate, lol.
I always put on eyeliner before eyeshadow, I know most people do it the other way, but I don't like how my eyeliner looks over powder, so I do it first and touch it up a bit after my eyeshadow if I need to.

I use LimeLife gell liner, it works really well and glides easily across the lid.

So, for doing eyeliner, I start at the corner of my eye and pull it up slightly, afterwards, I go underneath and more into my lash line and define it better. When I started I couldn't just flick it like I can now, and this video really helped me out.

Today I did a smaller cat eye than usual, since usually, I pull it out more, but I like this one as well, it's more natural looking.

And if I make a mistake I get a q-tip and put a little bit of Almond oil on the end to clean it up, Almond oil works wonders and I also use it to remove my makeup.

Next, I am going to put on eyeshadow, and today I'm using Warm Nude by Physicians Formula, I really like this palette it's smooth, shimmery, and easy to blend.

For my brush, I can't give you a name because there's none on it and I got it in a set as a gift and the set didn't have a name so I'm assuming it's a drug store brand?? Anyways, it works pretty well, and this is the size of it for comparison.

First, I tap into this soft almond color.

And I apply it on the crease of my brow bone and down to my eyeliner.

Awkward pic, but here's what my lids look like now. (ignore my eyebrows, I haven't done them yet).

Next, I tap into a slightly darker brown...

You'll want to apply it right below your brow bone and then pull it to the end of your eye.

Then I always use my finger to smooth it out and blend it (sorry for these up close shots, I know they look slightly awkward but it's all I got).

Then once that's blended I like to add a little shimmer to the corner of my eyes.

For this, I'm going to use my Tarte Pro Remix palette that I just got, and I really love this palette the colors are stunning and very pigmented, 10/10 would recommend. I'm using Moonlight for my corners today.

If you don't have this palette any lighter color will work.

And I forgot to take a picture of this part, but just put it in the corner of your eye and blend slightly.

Next, with moonlight, I'm going to add a shimmer right underneath my eye.

Then I'm going to tap into some black and line the underneath of my eyes like I did with moonlight, but I always stop halfway because if I underline my whole bottom lid I end up looking like a raccoon.

And here comes my favorite part: mascara. Mascara always makes everything look ten times better, it just adds that finishing touch.

Currently, I'm using Lights, Camera, Flashes by Tarte and it works really well, the brush is bigger than I'm use to and the bristles are chunky pieces of plastic, which doesn't look like it would apply mascara well but it actually is really great.

This mascara is a bit pricey, it's $24 I think, which is something I wouldn't have spent on mascara in the past but this brand is so amazing and it lasts a long time so I do get what I paid for.

I've tried Mary Kay and Cover Girl mascara, but I didn't like either. Mary Kay is so watery and you have to apply several coats before it shows up well, and Cover Girl's lines for mascara were all very clumpy.

I use to use Almay, but they stopped selling the line I really liked and none of their other lines were as good, so I switched to Tarte.

And then, even though this is an eye look, I'm going to let y'all know what my lip colour is,

I'm using Cover Girl for my lips, because they're cheap and because I actually really like their Oh Sugar! line. Today I'm wearing Spice and it's really light and pretty.

And finally, the full look:

There you go! It's not my best work, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

  4. This is really cool! I don't mess around with makeup at all, but it might have to be something I have to do in the future, so having all the tutorials is helpful.

Also, I love your header. So lovely!!

  7. I think I've used makeup like...twice in my life. Once for family photos and a second time when I was helping some friends with their movie and I had to sit in the makeup chair and get fancied up. :)

But it's really just because I'm lazy, not that I have anything against makeup. When I go out, I just get a nice shirt and pants/skirt on, add some matching earrings, and use a flexiclip on my hair.

That being said, I really enjoyed looking at all the pictures and seeing how you did everything! So super cool and maybe a tiny bit inspiring...

Though a pic of you looking like a raccoon would be hilarious!

  9. Nothing awkward in this. you're awesome at makeup. I'm improving... somewhat. it's the winged eyeliner that always stumps me, but I'm about to watch that video because I need all the help I can get. I got the winged eyeliner down once and now I can't seem to get it. xD

    1. I forgot to add that my eyes are slightly two different shapes. It isn't obvious... until I'm doing my eye makeup. xD But now that I've seen the video, I'm going to go try it now before I remove my makeup for the day. :D

    2. Aw, thank you! The video is really helpful. ^_^

One of my eyes is slightly bigger than the other it's very normal, I usually make them look more even with my eyeliner though.

I hope it works well for you!

  12. Love your makeup look Gray! I've only just now tried to do winged eyeliner. It went ok, hopefully that video will help! I use Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, so far it's the only non-waterproof mascara that seems to hold curled eyelashes for me. I have tried maybe 2 other Covergirl and Maybelline mascaras and I'm never impressed. It makes me scared to try other mascara. LOL

I've never tried that, I'm not a huge fan of maybelline's other products, but I'm glad it works for you! It's very hard to find mascara I like as well, lol.
