Don't Miss Out

Have you ever wondered how many friendships you've missed out on just because you overlooked someone?

I do.

I always find myself meeting people on the last day of camp, the last week of co-op, the last hour at a group event that I really click with and I think to myself, "Man. Why didn't I talk to them earlier?"

I had to go up and talk to people in order to get bible studies for this class I was taking, I had to force myself to go up and talk to people. The ones I hesitated to talk to were always the ones who teared up, hugged me, thanked me for approaching them, I even got a study that is still ongoing with one of them!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think we get so caught up in the comfort and safety of our already established friendships that we forget to go outside of our groups and be friendly to others.

Others who need love and acceptance like the rest of us.
Others who need someone to need them.
Others who need someone to seek them out in crowds.
Others who, like us, need friends.

As the school year starts I'd like to remind you (and myself) that people are both more simple and complex than we often take them for.

Just smile and go for it.

  2. I'm so glad you're sharing this, because it is way too true. I've always loved going up to every single person and "interviewing" them. I think this is part of the reason I have more friends than I can remember, and over a dozen best friends.
Also, I think it's derived from the fact that when I was younger I was often overlooked or pushed out of groups. So when I found my voice, I used it ;)

  5. My dad always says "How do you spell love? T-I-M-E." The best way to love people is to simply spend time with them. Most people are just hurting for friends.

    Good post!

    1. Me too! We've all been there at one point, so we should help others who are currently there. <3

    1. I've met people like that as well, but don't let them discourage you from being friendly! <3
